Subscribers only 'Made in Taiwan' shifting to 'Made by' and 'Made with' Taiwan?

Taiwan exported fewer than 77,000 e-bike units in the first quarter of 2026. This marks a 15% year-on-year drop from 2025 and the lowest Q1 e-bike exports since 2018. This also signals that the world's bicycle manufacturer is still struggling to get a firm grip on the electrified bike market post-Covid. The export value of regular bicycles also continues to drop 17% in Q1, but little is heard about consolidations or bankruptcies in the Taiwanese bicycle industry. As the total export value dips under $10 billion for the last two consecutive quarters, could the value shift be taking place outside of Taiwan's borders?

Subscribers only China back on top as EU's leading e-bike supplier

For the first time since anti-dumping duties were introduced in 2019, China reclaimed its position as the European Union's top e-bike supplier in 2025. The lead is marginal, with an equal 32.8% share of the total e-bike import market together with Taiwan. Although only a mere 350 units more entered the EU from China than Taiwan, the island nation continues to hold 54% share of import value, totalling €318 million.

2025 export data shows depths of Taiwan supply chain struggle

That 2025 was not going to be a good year for the Taiwanese industry was already evident after Taipei Cycle in March when it became obvious that order books were still empty. The bicycle-producing nation closed 2025 with a 7% drop in e-bike export volume, compared to the record-breaking bad year in 2024. With just under 337,000 units leaving the country and the export value dropping another 3%, it shows the Taiwan industry is still facing an uphill climb to bring production back to pre-pandemic levels.

Subscribers only China's grip on US bicycle market weakens in 2025

WASHINGTON, DC, United States - The number of bicycles imported into the United States in the first nine months of 2025 dropped 23% year-on-year. Looking specifically at China, imports from there have dropped by 40% amid tariff uncertainty throughout the year. Taiwan and Cambodia have made volume gains of 10% and 83% respectively. The latest import data provided by the US International Trade Commission shows that the face of the US bicycle market is already changing as a result of President Trump's 'America First' nationalist policy.

EU e-bike imports drop 13% while China breaks Taiwanese dominance

BRUSSELS, Belgium - The ongoing market and inventory issues have seen the total number of e-bikes imported into the European Union drop 13% in the first nine months of this year, compared to the same period last year. Eurostat's latest data also shows a 14% decline in value. Similarly to 2024, in Q3, China has taken the top spot from Taiwan as the leading EU e-bike supplier. But with a difference of just 341 units, there can be no talk of Chinese dominance in Europe - yet.

Subscribers only Taiwan e-bike exports to EU rebound as US remains in the spotlight

TAIPEI, TAIWAN - Around 150,000 e-bike units were exported from Taiwan to the European Union in the first nine months of 2025, the latest customs data shows. This is a 3% increase compared to the same period last year - a welcome sign of market stabilisation for the Taiwanese supply chain. However, total exports reached just over 270,000 units from January to September, representing a 3% year-on-year decline. The spotlight is now on how this develops as the year closes, with the rollout of United States tariffs and human rights accusations on Taiwanese companies bringing disruptions to trade.
